Actions speak louder than words.
（行動はことばよりも声高[雄弁]に語る）

After a storm comes a calm.
（あらしの後にはなぎが来る）
■ ここでの calm は名詞で「なぎ」の意。
■ A calm comes before a storm.（あらしの前にはなぎが来る）は「あらしの前の静けさ」。

After rain comes sunshine.
（雨のあとには晴天がくる；悪いことのあとにはよいことがある）

All's fair in love and war.
（恋愛と戦争においてはすべてが正当である；恋と戦は手段を選ばぬ）
■ All's は All is の略。

All's well that ends well.
（終わりよければすべてよし）

All roads lead to Rome.
（すべての道はローマに通ず；同じ目的でも方法はいろいろある）

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
（1日1個のリンゴは医者を遠ざける；リンゴ1日1個で医者知らず）
■ ここでの a は「…につき」の意。keep away「近づけない」「離しておく」

An Englishman's house is his castle.
（イギリス人の家は彼の城である；家庭[私生活]は不可侵の領域である）

An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
（目には目を、歯には歯を）

As you sow, so shall you reap.
（種をまいたように収穫があるものだ；因果応報）

Beauty is but skin-deep.
（美貌は皮一重；外見は美しくても性格まではわからない）
■ ここでの but は only の意。

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
（美は見る者の目の中にある；美の判定は見る人しだい）
■ beholder 「見る人」
