英作文練習：不定詞 (2)

1. 彼は一語も聞き漏らすまいとして耳をそばだてた。
＜発想＞
「耳をそばたてる」⇒「注意して[熱心に]聞く」
＜参照文＞
I couldn't make out a single word the foreigner said.
（その外国人の言ったことは一言もわからなかった）- SAJED
I missed the important things. / I failed to hear [catch] the important things.
（肝心なことを聞き漏らしてしまった）- LPJED

＜訳例＞
He attentively listened so as not to miss a single word.

2. なくしたものとあきらめていた本が見つかってうれしかった。

＜訳例＞
I was very happy to find the book I had given up for lost.

3. 写真を撮れるほどの明るさがない。

＜訳例＞
It is not light enough to take a picture.

4. その箱は小さすぎて本全部は入らない。
＜参照文＞
I want a bag that will hold this pot.
（このつぼが入るような袋がほしい）- SAJED

＜訳例＞
The box is too small to hold all my books.

5. 昨夜は遅くまで起きていたかったのだが、疲れがひどくてそれができなかった。

＜訳例＞
I wanted to stay up late last night, but I was too tired to do so.
